Pearl Harrell was born at Cego, Texas to John Percy Harrell, Sr. and Mary Carrie Whitaker Harrell on June 8, 1918. She passed away March 26, 2009. She was the youngest daughter, and last survivor, of a family of 16 children, 13 of whom lived to adulthood. She is survived by 22 nieces, nephews, and their children. Pearl earned a BA in 1937 and an MA in 1946 from Southwest Texas State College. She taught school for 42 years, 36 in Austin. She taught math at Fulmore JHS, Anderson HS in east Austin, ending her career at McCallum in 1981. Pearl was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chapter, AAUU. After retirement, she volunteered at the information booth at Mueller Airport, Bass Concert Hall, Paramount Theatre, North Lamar Senior Activity Center, and served holiday dinners at the Salvation Army. She was active in her church, Asbury United Methodist Church in Austin. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Asbury United Methodist Church.
