

Margaret Jean Peggy Locke Mueller of Austin passed on Friday, March 9, 2007. She was born November 19th in El Paso, Texas to the late Violet Cameron Aitken Locke and the late Langford John Locke. They later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Corpus Christi, Texas and then San Antonio, Texas, where she grew up from the 4th grade on. Her father received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in Alabama and then had a career with General Electric Company. She was married to R.G. Mueller, Jr. of Austin who passed on August 9, 2002. Their wedding was December 28, 1940 in San Antonio. Peggy and her husband, R.G. Mueller, Jr. were married 61 years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to New Orleans. Peggy attended Woodlawn Elementary School, Mark Twain Junior High School and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, all in San Antonio, Texas. She attended her freshman year of college at San Antonio Junior College, which was just a two-year college in those days, and has since become San Antonio College which is a four-year college. Peggy then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from The University of Texas at Austin in 1940. While at The University of Texas, Peggy was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, was on the council at Scottish Rite Dormitory for two years, and was also an upper class advisor at the dormitory SRD. She was elected President of the Womens Senior Class at UT, 1939-1940, also President of the Cap and Gown Council which passes the Blue Bonnet Chain down to the Junior Class of Women in a ceremony, member of the Coed Assembly of Presidents, President of the Girls Glee Club of UT, chosen a Blue Bonnet Belle nominated by the Mens Glee Club, chosen one of eleven outstanding women at UT by The Daily Texan, and a member of the Physical Education Majors Club. Peggy has done much civic work in Austin through the years. She was a former President of the Settlement Club for a period of two years, a charter gold member of the Womens Symphony League of Austin, having at one time chaired the Annual Fund Drive for the Austin Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of the Austin Womans Club, former member of Violet Crown Garden Club, member of Zeta Tau Alpha Austin Alumnae having served as a former President, also served on the Zeta Tau Alpha House Board, worked for many years on the Community Chest Fund Drive now the United Way. She and her husband were charter members of the Mayfair Dance Club, members of the Austin Country Club, the Austin Club and the Austin Founders Trail Ride to the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo. They both loved traveling all over the world. Peggy was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.G. Mueller, Jr.; by her parents, Violet Aitken Locke and Langford John Locke; and by her brother, Air Force Major General John Langford Locke and his wife, Patricia Firth Head Locke. Peggy and R.G. are survived by their son, Randolph George Mueller; their daughter, Peggy Jean Mueller; four grandchildren, John Martin Mueller and wife Widad of Longmont, Colorado, Andrew Scott Mueller of Austin, Texas, Betsy Ann Mueller of Colorado Springs, Colorado and San Francisco, California, Mark Randolph Mueller and wife Eli also of Austin; great-grandchildren, Martin Nicklaus Mueller and Naya Noelle Mueller both of Longmont, Colorado and Austinites, Zachary Ivan Mueller and Luke Randolph Mueller, born March 1, 2007; nephews, Bill, Doug and Donald Danforth; cousin, Leo Fritzie Mueller; devoted friends, Maggie Shelton, Maria Elena Guevara, and Garry Vacek; plus a wealth of great friends in Texas and the United States and a heritage, through John Locke, in England and Ireland. Services will be Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, MLK and I-35 in downtown Austin. Serving as pallbearers are John Mueller, Scott Mueller, Betsy Mueller, Mark Mueller, Leo Fritzie Mueller, J Bouldin, and Ira Yates.
