

On the morning of Sunday, June 30th, Penelope Gail (Sloat) Nicoll-Jones, passed from her living life to join the angels above. She was surrounded at the time by the love and comfort of close family. Penny is survived by her husband, Donald L. Jones; five sons, Jeffrey Nicoll and wife Debbie of Mobile, Alabama, Keith Nicoll of Round Rock, Texas, Bradley Nicoll of Austin, Steven Nicoll of Round Rock and Craig Jones of Woodland, Washington; grand-children, Kaylee & Avery Nicoll of Mobile and Zachary Nicoll of Round Rock, sister Audrey Magner of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Audrey’s family: David Jacquette, Larry Jacquette and Cyndi Boulden of Wilmington, Delaware and Chris Jacquette of Asheville, North Carolina.
Penny was an Austin resident for nearly 39 years. She was born May 3, 1942 in Portland, ME to Chester & Adelaide Sloat, and was raised in Chester, PA. She earned her degree in Nursing from Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing in Washington D.C. in 1963. She joined the Air Force in 1964 and was stationed at Larson AFB in Moses Lake, WA, where she met and married Ronald B. Nicoll in July 1965. The young couple traveled with the Air Force, stationed at March AFB in Riverside, CA; Andersen AFB in Guam; Pope AFB in Fayetteville, NC, and finally Bergstrom AFB in Austin in 1974. Following her divorce in 1989, she met Donald Jones in 1993 through the Central Texas Personal Computers Users Group. They married October 4, 2004.
After leaving the Air Force in early 1966 to start a family, Penny returned to the medical field in the late 1980s after completing a nursing refresher course at Austin Community College. She worked part-time at Twelve Oaks Minor Emergency Clinic and Seton Medical Center, then full-time as a Registered Nurse and Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist at State Farm Insurance (1987-1989), Abbott Laboratories (1989-1991) and Advanced Micro Devices (1991-2002). She retired from nursing in 2002 to enjoy more time with her husband and loved ones.
Penny was a talented artist with her own business, 6-cent Originals, selling painted embroideries at arts & crafts shows while raising her boys. Her interests throughout life included arts & crafts, history, genealogy, and computers. Upon moving t o Austin in 1974, she became a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and was recently an active participant in the monthly Dorcas & weekly Lamplighters bible study groups.
Her loving nature, caring heart, and positive spirit will be dearly missed and forever cherished by friends, family, and all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, Penny's family asks for charitable donations to be made in her name to an organization of your choice. Her heart was always caring for others and that is how we wish to best remember her.
A memorial service to celebrate Penny’s life will be held on Friday, July 5th at Covenant Presbyterian Church in the Fellowship & Eduction Building at 2:00pm. All are welcomed to attend, to share and celebrate memories of Penny.
