Peter was the son of Peter and Margaretann Shelus, born in Austin, TX on February 15, 1972. He spent all of his life in Austin. Peter's early years of education were spent in Montessori School and he moved on to elementary and high school at Hyde Park Baptist School. He attended the University of Texas as a Math major.
While still at UT, he made his way into his first love, computer gaming, by being the first work-study student at UT in the Mathematics Department. Over the course of his computer gaming career, he held senior positions at Origin Systems, Electronics Arts, Ion Storm, Ageia Technologies, BreakAway Games, Vigil Games and Junction Point. At the time of his death he was Senior Lead Software Engineer at BioWare. He was most proud of his efforts on behalf of the games Wing Commander: Prophecy, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Thief: Deadly Shadows, and Epic Mickey.
Acquiring a deep and insightful grasp of Physics and Math while at the University, Peter was able to apply this knowledge in powerful and, sometimes, unique ways during his career in helping to build interesting and exciting fantasy and adventure computer-based games. Using sound physical and mathematical principles he was able to create simulated environments that were true physical realizations of the world around us. Working with others he received a patent for his work using real-time constructive solid geometry to provide painting and thinning game mechanics. He also freely shared his knowledge and skills as both tutor and mentor. All of this becomes his legacy within the computer gaming industry with the products that he helped create and the people with whom he worked.
Peter was predeceased by his fraternal grandparents, Peter and Helen Shelus and his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Margaret Stuhl. Peter is survived by his mom and dad and his brother, Jonathan, his aunt Marianne and uncle Roy Deakyne, and by cousins Theodore and Julianna Deakyne.
