Philip Daywood was born in Austin in 1932 and passed away on April 5th, 2013. He was the son of Lebanese parents, George and Tamine Daywood, and spent much of his childhood around their grocery store on 6th street. He was a graduate of Austin High School and served in the US Navy as a minesweeper from 1954-1956. After the Navy, he worked as a delivery driver for Butter Krust Bakery and a route salesman for Alert Vending. He met Sharon Wortham in 1960 and the two were married the following year. Philip was an avid sports fan, never missing an opportunity to cheer on the Texas Longhorns or the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to barbecue for his family – turkey at Christmas and Thanksgiving; brisket in the summer. Philip was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Lebanon Association. Mr. Daywood was preceded in death by his parents, George and Tamine Daywood; his brothers, William and David Daywood; and his sister, Louise Daywood Kyle. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Daywood; his sons, Robbie and Scott Daywood; his daughter and son-in-law, Lynanne and Don Gallegos; and his three grandchildren, Bailey, Zachary, and Chloe Gallegos. The family would like to thank the nurses at Seton Hospital (Emily, Miriam, and Bonnie) for their care of Philip, as well as the nurses and staff of Christopher House. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Tuesday, the 9th of April 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
