
Philip Adel Nelson, Jr., 74, of Austin, passed away on April 25, 2008. He was born in Austin, Texas to Philip Adel Nelson, Sr. and Marion Hammer Nelson. Philip was a graduate of Austin High School. He received his BBA and LLB from the University of Texas at Austin. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta, Kappa Alpha, and the ROTC while at the University of Texas. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, where he retired as a Lt. Colonel. Philip worked as an Assistant Attorney General, then went into private law practice here in Austin. He retired after many years of service as the First Assistant District Attorney for Travis County. Philip was married on October 26, 1963, to Katherine Barlow. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Patrick Barlow. Philip is survived by his wife, Katherine; sister, Bette Nelson Heinrich and husband Dr. Curtis Heinrich of San Antonio; nephew, Dr. Michael Seth Heinrich and Laura, and their children Kate and Nelson of Brownwood, Texas; nieces, Melanie Savitz and Danny of Houston, Katherine Gallagher Heinrich and Philip Gallagher and their son Philip of Houston; sister-in-law, Sandra Barlow; niece, Melinda Barlow McCuan and John and their children, Sarah, Anna, Seth and Leah and nephew Keith Barlow and numerous cousins. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Austin Memorial Park with Pastor Karl Gronberg officiating.
