Phyllis Dale Short

Phyllis Dale Short of Austin, TX peacefully passed away at West Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center on Saturday, February 5, 2011. She was born in Wirt County, WV a daughter of the late Nester A. and Lela (Boyer) Whited on February 7, 1924.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, William D. Short, one brother, Nelson Ray Whited, and sisters, Ruth Marks and Iva Rader.

Surviving is her daughter, Deborah Cortez and son-in-law, Mateo Cortez of Austin, TX and many nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Wirt County High School and of Mountain State Business College. She was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Clara Edna Chapters #140 and #14.

She was an employee of the American Viscose Corporation during World War II and later at the Internal Revenue Service, was co-owner of the Western Auto Associate Store in Elizabeth, WV for 10 years and retired from Montgomery Ward Company in 1982.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home of Parkersburg, WV. A memorial service will be held at a time and place to be announced.
