
Polly Johnson, “PJ”, was born in Elgin, Illinois to Joseph Terry Johnson, Jr. and Margaret Ann Derdowski Johnson. PJ lived in Illinois, Texas and Iowa with family before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Westside High School in 1968 and then attended the University of Nebraska Omaha while working at Brandeis and Northwestern Bell. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. Post-graduate studies at Sam Houston State University (Huntsville, TX) and St. Edward’s University (Austin, TX) earned her a Master’s Degree in Human Services in 1983. Her career in law enforcement began at the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville which led to a long tenure at the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin. PJ rose up through the ranks, retiring in 2002 at the rank of Major in the Administration and Support Bureau. She was on the faculty in the Criminal Justice programs at Austin Community College and St. Edward’s University.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Richard Russell. She is survived by sister Susan Johnson Russell, brother J. Terry Johnson, III (Kathy), sister Nancy Johnson Schorr (Bob), and nieces and nephew Amy, Angie, Lindsay, Andy, Julie, and Cady, along with their spouses and children. Her love of reading was exceeded only by her love of her dog Popper.
