Ramona Olson Bloomquist passed away Friday, November 2, 2007 at 95 years of age. She was born May 7, 1912 in San Diego, California, the first of four children to Morgan and Eva Olson. The following year her family moved to Wisconsin where they lived until 1917, when her family made the long journey to Alamo, Texas. Her father was one of the early citrus farmers in the Valley until health concerns persuaded him to move his family to Austin in 1924. Ramona graduated from Austin High School and the University of Texas and began her 38 year teaching career. Ramona truly loved teaching children and spent 25 years at Metz Elementary in Austin. In 1947, Ramona married F.T. (Slim) Bloomquist. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. After her retirement, her granddaughter Lindsay brought her years of enjoyment and presented her with a new purpose and direction for the last 26 years of her life. She was kind, patient and cautiously encouraging to her family and they loved her for the support and unconditional love she always gave them. The last few years of her life Ramona lived at Brighton Gardens where she maintained a positive outlook. She joined and participated in many activities. She especially enjoyed the many field trips and rousing games of Bingo. Ramona was preceded in death by her husband F.T. Bloomquist, sisters Evelyn Kelly and Leta Lawton, and brother Calvin Olson. She is survived by her daughter Vonda Bloomquist; son John Bloomquist and wife Anne; granddaughter Lindsay Bloomquist Armstrong and husband Dunn; step-grandchildren James and Thomas Houser; sisters-in-law Virginia Martin and Gladys Olson, and many nieces and nephews. Ramonas family would like to give their heartfelt and grateful appreciation to the staff at Brighton Gardens for the kind care they gave to her. Thank you to Hospice Austin for their compassionate and caring services the last week of her life. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 4th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 5th at 10:30 a.m. at Capital Memorial Park, Pflugerville.
