Cynthia: My wife Silvia and I wish to offer our condoolences on the loss of your husband, Ray. I knew him well when we both were students at Gallaudet College during the late '50s and early '60s. Ray was always a loving and funny person who would share his concern for anyone in need of support during difficult times. Remember the good times -- always. Tim and Silvia Jaech

Our first “tour” of TSD included watching Piper work with the preschool kids on a Christmas play. I was sold right then and there. Sending hugs.

I send my love to you and your family. My son Sivan and I were introduced to Mr Piper by his wife Cynthia. We joined the performance he was directing for TSD anniversary. I truly enjoyed his company. He’s an amazing human who knew how to build others up as well as putting a smile and leaving them laughing .
Our thoughts go out to you.

So many good memories of Piper. He worked with me on dramas at TSD. He was such an excellent actor as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, the Cowardly Lion in Wizard of Oz, Cyrano in Cyrano de Bergerac, Rip Van Winkle and so many more. Piper's ASL was an beautiful to see. When we rode the school bus to present the dramas at many cities in Texas, Piper worked as hard as all the students carrying the set pieces and helping put them up, being a mentor to the students, being a good friend to me. My heart grieves at his passing.

Piper was my Life Skills teaching partner. I had just moved to Austin and this was my first assignment at TSD. Piper graciously took me under his wings and made my entrance into the TSD family easier. Our middle school class was composed of 14 boys. Piper had the most AMAZING ability to explain concepts to our students.

One of the boys brought a frog to class. The other boys decided to bring more. We permitted the frogs with the understanding that the boys would gather bugs in the woods behind the cottages to feed them. The boys became bored. One morning, we all watched in horror as one of the larger frogs ate one of the smaller ones. That day the students learned a valuable life lesson.

I will never forget the kind giant with the big heart, the most talented story teller, and my friend.
