Rebecca “Becky” Gomez Polete, a beloved wife and mother, age 54, of Leander, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Ascension Seton Medical Center, Austin, after a 15 year battle with metastatic breast cancer.
She was born July 20, 1967 in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Victorino Salinas Gomez and the late Naomi Ramirez Gomez. She is survived by her husband of 33 years David Alan Polete; daughter Naomi Rose Polete (Mitch Brum) of Leander, Texas; son Noah William Polete of Leander, Texas; brother Ricardo Ramirez Gomez of Lubbock, Texas; sister Rosanne Gomez Segovia (Servando) of Lubbock, Texas; soon-to-be grandson Riverdy Thomas Brum; nephews and nieces Marc Jacob Gomez, Faith Naomi Segovia, Brian Harley Conardy, Stephanie Renee Figliolo, and Lea Ashleigh Wood. Although born and raised in Lubbock, Texas she brightened the lives of her neighbors at Keesler AFB (Biloxi), Mississippi; Konken, Germany; Harker Heights, Texas; and Leander, Texas.
Rebecca accepted everyone she met; she was a powerful, quiet presence; she was spiritual and a faithful follower of Christ. She found strength in scripture, which the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount describe well:
Matthew 5:5,8-9 (NIV)
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Rebecca’s love for music started in middle school when she learned to play the trumpet. That love grew throughout her youth where it ultimately led her to become a drum major for Lubbock High School’s marching band. Rebecca then attended Texas Tech University and was a proud member of the Goin’ Band from Raiderland. Her love of music continued while living in Germany where she joined Musikverein Konken, a traditional German band, playing the trumpet.
During her 33 years of marriage, she lived and traveled many places few people ever get to go. She loved traveling and had a deep love for the beach. She especially enjoyed meeting up with friends and family on her travels, spending time eating good food along with drinking her favorite, margaritas.
She was known as “mom” by so many children whose lives she touched. Her love of dogs was deep and no doubt she is enjoying meeting all of her fur babies at the Rainbow Bridge.
