Rey P. Alcid

August 14, 1960March 22, 2011

Rey P. Alcid, 50 years old, of Austin, Texas but originally from Manila, Philippines, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 after struggling with cancer which was only very recently diagnosed. Rey was born on August 14, 1960 in Pasay City, Philippines to both deceased, Trinidad Peredo and Jose H. Alcid. Ley, as he was fondly called, was the 10th of a brood of 12 children. On May 10, 1996, he married Magdalena Paglinawan of Baguio City, Philippines, who survives him together with their two lovely children, Andrea, 11 and Arlyn, 9.

Ley completed both high school and college at the Ateneo de Manila University in Manila. He completed A.B. Economics. He migrated to the United States in 1984 to pursue his career further. He lived and worked in Connecticut before moving to California, where he met Magdalena, his future wife. He was an avid computer junkie and dabbled in computer building on the side. Just prior to his sudden and unexpected demise, he was one unit shy of completing his prerequisites for entry into nursing school. Rey took excellent care of his two children, and nothing gave him more pleasure than to spend time with them, take them to their school functions, was a regular volunteer at all school activities, taught catechism at the church and school, and enjoyed taking them to all their extra-curricular activities.

Ley enjoyed traveling and was involved in many outdoor activities with his extended family. He was the family comedian and everybody enjoyed his company immensely. He would brighten any room with his antics and jokes. People gravitated toward him because he was very easygoing and fun-loving. He particularly enjoyed going to thrift shops and spend hours rummaging through stuff. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Trinidad Peredo and Jose H. Alcid. He is survived by his wife Magdalena and their two children; sisters, Pinky, Rina, Ella, Joy, Lala and Tiza; brothers, Pot, Toy, Rene, Jude, and Loy; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with recitation of the Holy Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road with Father Rajamanickam, Celebrant.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to your favorite charity in Ley’s memory.

Wow, Ley,
Sabi da, magparamdam ka. Gwacious, nagmini earthquake ka naman. One of the main branches of the pine tree beside the house fell on the red car. The really thick boughs fell on the sides as if embracing it - no harm to any cars on the lot. Thanks for giving notice that it needs to be feathered before it causes real harm. Love you pa rin and remembering funny bits and pieces of life with you. Tandang-tanda ko pa...

Hi Ley, Happy happy birthday! Thank you for visiting with Jill and Joe and letting them know you are very happy where you are at. The medium described you perfectly, mischievous smile and all. I listened to the tape and I knew it was really you. Watch over all of us as you have done and have a blast celebrating your special day with Mom ,Dad, Chibby and all your barkadas in heaven. Still miss all of you tremendously but am finally assured all of you are doing well including George who I understand had a message for his siblings. His message has been relayed- let him know. Will see ,each other again someday and until then, keep smiling! Next time, it will be me who will ask to have a session to visit all of you! Rina
