Mr. Aielli was my 5th grade teacher at Williams Elementary way back in 1980. I’ve thought of him often over the years for his engaging teaching style and his passion! He introduced our class to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and J.R. Tolkien. I remember always comparing him to The Fonz! I remember the hours spent with my classmates on the big pillow listening to the stories of The Hobbit. You definitely made an impact on my life and at 54 years old now, I still remember you. 

This was my first time looking for him online and saddened to learn of his passing, but was proud to see his accomplishments! Much love to him and his family. I am honored to have met him.

Mr. Aielli was my social studies teacher at Pearce Middle School, and my favorite teacher ever.


I met Richard when we were both patients at the Texas Neuro  Rehab center  just outside of Austin.  He was a blast and so nice to everyone there.  He was quite a storyteller, to be sure.  I received a traumatic brain injury from a bicycle accident.  Richard told me that someone had shot him in the head when he was in his classroom.  Oh, well, what can one say to all of that?  We became friends there and I enjoyed his companionship.  Brain injuries are awful and confusing and I still think about Richard often for being so open and nice to me while we were at the rehab center at such an unfortunate time.  I worked for the SMCISD at the time as a school bus monitor when I had my accident and missed the first month of school in 2007.  I'm sure that Richard must have been a splendid teacher and friend.  Even though I only knew Richard for such a short period of time, I do consider him a friend and I do realize that he had a positive impact on all who knew him.   Respectfully yours, Denise Ludwig



I just found this after I was talking to my sin about my 5th grade teacher at Williams elementary.   I was remembering the 45lp he gave us of his band.   I remember him to have been stern but compassionate.   He was memorable!  I wish his family well



Richard, just heard a song played at your memorial service and it made me smile.  I never told you how much you inspired me and what a difference you made and continue to make in my life as a teacher.  Your dedication to not just the students, but the subject matter is just one of the many things I took from you.  One day I hope to be half the teacher you were.  One memory I have among many is that at the end of the year, on the last week of school, after textbooks had been collected, and when all the other teachers had packed it in and were showing disney movies, you showed your class,  "Gone with the Wind" and paused it a hundred times for historical (and often hysterical) commentary.    And they loved it because they loved you.

Mr. Aielli taught me what it really meant to learn. I truly believe that one of the most selfless and noble acts a person can do is to teach. What's remarkable is that now even almost 7 years later I can still feel the affects of his influence on me and I think that is what sets apart the good teachers from the great. Mr. Aielli embodied what it meant to be a great teacher and I'm sure that his influence will continue to live on in the lives of the many students he has touched.

Mr. Aielli was one of my favorite 8th grade teachers. Ive never learned as much in one class as i learnd in his. He made history my favorite subject. He was a kind and awesomely phsycadelic man with a van. He shared his wisdom with all of his students. He also reminded us we are all human and he enjoyed his miller time and how he escaped the cops with liquor in hand. He was a great rolemodel and he will live on through his family but also his students.



Mr. Aielli was my 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Pearce Middle School.  I will always remember him for his tough curriculum, his needed discipline, and his kind heart.  He made us work hard for our grades...it taught me a lot!  I extend my deepest thoughts and prayers for your family, and may God bless you during this difficult time.



I was truly saddened to hear about the loss of Mr. Aielli last month.  Mr. Aielli was my favorite Social Studies/ History teacher in Austin, Texas so many years ago.      Mr. Aielli instilled a love for learning in me that proved to be invaluable later in life.  When I too became a teacher years later, I often thought about him and tried to mirror the fun way he would spin each lesson to make them memorable.      Not only did Mr. Aielli make learning fun for me, but he constantly let me know that he believed in me, and also taught me how to believe in myself - I will never forget that gift!      I have often wanted to find Mr. Aielli to tell him how much I truly appreciated the time and dedication he brought to school each day, but unfortunately was unable to locate him prior to his passing.  I am hopeful that one day I will have the chance to tell him how much what he did meant to me and how much of an impact he made on my life.      My thoughts and prayers are with the family and many friends he has left behind...the world has lost a truly magnificent teacher!

It has been about 9-10 years since I visited the Aielli household.  The many memories I still have speak to the kindness and care I received.  One of my favorite memories I have is when, as a middle-schooler, Richard took a hand full of us kids camping out in the hill country.  Whenever we had a basketball game or band concert, I remember always counting on Richard and Kay being there for Amber and all of us.  I'm so grateful for having met all of you.



Strange that just a few weeks ago on my birthday, I thought of Mr. Aielli, my 5th grade teacher at Williams Elementary so many years ago.  Of all my grade school teachers, he was one of the few I remember distinctly.  I know his matter of fact way and attention to detail has been a great influenced on my life.    I am very sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.



My most sincere condolences to Kay, Amber, Michael and all those who loved Richard.  Richard touched many lives, and I count myself among the fortunate people who have shared time with him and his family. He will be missed.



Richard, Louis, and I went all through school together, and I always loved both of them.  They were kind and funny and truly great kids.  I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing.  I am not surprised that he had a positive impact on so many lives as an educator.  He would have been someone that students would remember fondly and with admiration. I taught Richard at Rancier in the 1960s.  He was a great student and always had a good time at school.  He was a student leader and one of my best math students.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  I want to say this:  It is wonderful that he shared his love of learning with so many students.  His career is a testament to me that love of learning reaches beyond our childhood and affects many around us.  I am sorry for your loss.  I can close my eyes and see that hint of mischief in his eyes as he played a trick or solved a difficult problem.  He tutored kids who struggled with math and had many friends at Rancier.



Mr. Aielli was my 8th grade History teacher at Burnet Middle school. He is the sole reason for my love of both history and government. I wouldn't have made it this far in life with teachers like him. He was 1 in a million and will be truely missed.



Mr.Aielli,   you were one of the best teachers that i had ever had. you made us learn and memorize everything we did in your class. but it was fun when you told us all your stories. they were really interesting!!  well Mr. youre in a better place, and i know youre watching us from up there. keep us safe and rest in peace. I am very sorry to hear about your loss.  Mr. Aielli was my 5th Grade teacher, which was around 24 years ago. Of every teacher I had over all my years of school, he was the one that I remembered the most and had the biggest impact on my life. He will be missed by all. He was a great man and an outstanding Teacher.



Rich was a great guitarist and even greater educator. He touched a lot of people. I knew Rich back in the 70's when he was in a band with my brother Bobby. Mr. Aielli was my fifth grade teacher at Williams Elementary.He made a significant impact on my life.There are so many lessons I learned from him...there is not an "o" in a series of numbers, such as a phone number - it's a zero. I learned to appreciate classical music&still do to this day. We would listen to his brother on the radio every day.His story time was The Hobbit and he made that the best story ever.   He always had M&M's on his desk and a smile on his face. He was one of the best teachers I ever had and I am so saddened to hear he is gone. Certainly not forgotten - I'm 35 years old now and he will always be a part of my education which I've already begun to pass on to my children. I didn't know Richard, but his face looked familiar and then I saw the name Aielli. I fly hang gliders with Michael and know that the whole family must be incredibly gracious people as Michael is a terrific person. Michael you are going through a hard time, but I know you will find peace and memories of your brother as you soar above the earth and below the heavens. My condolences to you and your family.



Mr. Aielli was my 8th grade American history teacher at Pearce Middle School. He challenged us to think about history critically and to always seek the truth. In pursuing my government degree at UT I can really see his influence in my perspective - and I'm thankful that I was privileged enough to be taught by him. I am so sorry to hear that Richard has passed away. I enjoyed so many pleasant times with him. Many of those memories and conversations are as alive today as they were in the 70's. I enjoyed so much the times listening to the rock band he played in and his acoustical solos at home. I spent many sunny afternoons enjoying a good game of badmitton with Richard and friends in his backyard on Duval. He graced me with his friendship, big smile and very strong handshake, even when I was unworthy of it at times. I feel sure that the world is a better place for having Richard as part of it, especially for those that knew him.    I know  BoBO, Moma Wit, Lil Wit, Snowflake and all of Richard's other furry friends will greet him with a bark and a meow, as they spend cool sunny days playing together again. Kay Aielli was my third grade teacher at Palm Elementary.  I have this memory of a group of students going to their home and Richard playing the piano. Mrs. Aeilli I think about you every now and then especially when I pass the old school. You and your daughter have my deepest sympathy.

Richard was my mentor for the past two years at Burnet Middle School.  He helped to shape me as a teacher.  I respected and admired Richard as an educator and a friend.  My condolences to his family.



Richard Aielli was one of my most favorite students.  As Richard's teacher in junior high and yearbook sponsor, I got to know Richard, Louis, and Cindy his sister very well.  I could always count on him and Brady Barrows to give me a laugh, a thrill, or a challenge.  He was so much fun and so talented.    Richard, I bet, was that kind of teacher also.  I am so saddened by his passing.  Many will miss him.  However, my great memories of Richard and his family will remain.
