LTC (Ret.) Richard M. "Don" Bosserman, Jr., USA Richard M. "Don" Bosserman, Jr., 71, of Austin, Texas, passed away on November 4, 2009. He was born December 24, 1937 in Staunton, Virginia. Don served his country for over twenty years as a member of the National Guard and the Regular Army. He was consistently recognized for his visionary adaptation of Armor tactics and leadership both in war and peace. His decorations included the Bronze Star with "V" for valor (two awards); Department of Defense Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with "V" for valor, and the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He served in leadership positions with the Texas Capital Chapter 1919 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Austin, Texas. Don's devotion to his units and the troops under his command was exemplified by his credo--"Take care of your troops first, your equipment second and then your fellow officers." He is survived by his wife, Betty Bosserman; brothers, David Bosserman and wife Jane of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Larry Bosserman of Austin; daughter Daphne Rice and husband Mark of Mechanicsville, Virginia; daughter Dawn Parker and husband Greg of Mechanicsville, Virginia; grandchildren, Anthony, Mckayla and Grayson; and his extended family, Brenda and David Konopnicki, Megan and Kyle; Barbara and Jim Pompa, Scott and Matthew; John and Kay Russell, Praise, Johnny, Kathryn, Kaylee, Conrad, and Emily.
