After an extended illness, Richard “Rick” Disney departed this life on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in Austin. He will be missed by his family, but is at peace now as he joins his Mom and Dad in Heaven.
He was born on July 7, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama, the only son of Clovis and Louise Disney.
He had a passion for succeeding at work and play. He loved figuring out how things worked and enjoyed fixing things. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, Rick started a 30-year career at IBM in Charlotte, North Carolina. His work led him to spend 16 years in Boca Raton, Florida before moving to Austin in 1995 and retiring in 2008.
Rick enjoyed playing golf with his Dad in his early years. He thoroughly enjoyed the many bowling leagues that he participated in over the years and achieved several perfect 300 games.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Rick is survived by his caring wife, Linda; daughter, Shannon Smith and husband, Mike; sons, Sean Disney and wife, Morgan and Jason Disney; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to be made in Rick’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association for hopes in finding a cure.
