

Richard Rick Edwin Morris Richard Rick Edwin Morris, age 55, of Austin, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003. Rick was born on August 18, 1948, in Memphis Tennessee, to Samuel C. and Mary Mayhall Morris. He attended Earlham College, Richmond Virginia, Rhodes University, Memphis, Tennessee and completed graduate work in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He was a Social Worker at the Austin State Hospital, employed by Middle Earth, case manager at Lifeworks (mentoring troubled/misplaced adolescents on to Self Sufficiency). The main pride of his professional life was the development of the patient operated workshop at the Austin State Hospital, which produced furniture for statewide sale. Rick was Rehabilitation Director at the San Antonio State Hospital, Director of Gonzales County MHMR Clinic and Rehab supervisor at the Austin State Hospital for APS East. Rick received the 1994 Showcase Award for Innovation, promoting TX MHMRS vision for mental health and mental retardation services. Rick proudly served in the U.S. Military (Army) with honor and integrity and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a charter member of the Hill Country BMW Riders of Austin. His interests included the outdoors, animals, reading, music (listening to and playing the guitar), providing psychiatric care, motorcycles, cooking for loved ones, yellow roses and family. He is survived by daughter, Jessica Jean Morris, his beloved, Sally Hanes, sister, Mary Alice Morris-Merrill, Sara Jane Morris, his Boxer dog and constant companion, Nancy Lynn Ford, loving companion of his youth and mother of his child. He was preceded in death by his mother Jean Barbara Gott, wife, Charlotte Morris, grandmothers, Winnie Morris, Grace Gott, Ethel Gott and grandfather Edwin L. Morris. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 29th at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Pastor Charles Holm-Roesler officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Lifeworks, 1221 W.
