Richard was born on August 1st, 1921 in Winston Salem, NC to parents Dan Stathos and Lucille Clark. He served in the Navy during WWII, he was a range finder on the ship, Wisconsin. He was steadfast man, good at whatever he did.
He moved to Austin, TX with his brother Dan Stathos II, he married Clarice Johnson, was married to her for 64 years until her passing in 2010.
He was a self-made man and self-taught, only graduating out of the 8th grade. He was a very determined person always striving for more knowledge.
He opened a successful liquor store named Dan’s #3 in 1954 at 5353 Burnet Road. It was named after his father, who also had a liquor store at 16th and Lavaca. His brother had a wine cellar and liquor store on Congress. Richard was in the liquor business for over 50 years, retiring at the age of 79.
Richard also had a great passion and luckiness in the stock market. He was not a day trader, but a long term guy.
He was a great business man, devoted husband, good brother and a wonderful father and grandfather. He was loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his only daughter, Donna Collins and only grandchild, Anthony Smith, along with nieces and nephews; Dan Stathos III, Lucie Gvara, Tom Stathos and Diana Coxe.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 18, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
