Robert Conrad Ammann III, or for those that really knew him "Boy Ammann", was the most amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was born on December 17, 1946 in Austin, Texas to Mary Helen George Ammann and Robert Conrad Ammann Jr. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, April 23, 2018. If you ever were in the company of this good looking, blue eyed Boy Ammann, you were blessed to have known laughter, joy and great times.
He grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from Austin High where he was a star athlete. He received many football scholarships and chose to play at Texas Tech University. Boy married the love of his life Sharon Connally on March 23, 1968 and was blessed to have recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After serving in the Army, Boy and Sharon moved to Floresville where he managed his in-laws, John and Nellie Connallys, ranches. They then returned to Austin to start their own BBQ restaurant; and if you have never tried Boy Ammann's BBQ you missed the best brisket ever! Following that, he went to work as an enforcement officer for the State Comptrollers Office until he retired. After retiring, he and Sharon spent time with family, taking their boat out on the lake and golf cart rides looking at the sunsets.
Another important part of Boy's life was his friends. They were like gold to him and their relationships had lasted from childhood until the day he died. Boy loved the outdoors and anything to do with water. He also loved all kinds of music including gospel, rock, country and soul. Boy enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, taking the family on vacations to the beach and adored his time with his children and grandchildren who affectionately called him Boo Boo.
The last several years, Boy fought hard to beat a rare cancer called CTCL- Mycosis Fungoides. The family would like to thank MD Anderson Cancer Center and Hospital for their incredible care, Dr. Huen, and the nurses and doctors at St. David's South Cancer Center and Hospital.
Robert Conrad Ammann III is preceded in death by his mother Mary Helen George Ammann and father Robert Conrad Ammann Jr. He is survived by his wife Sharon Connally Ammann; daughter Amy Ammann Pawelek and husband Craig; daughter Tracy Ammann Waight; son Robert (Bubba) Conrad Ammann IV and wife Chanda; son Charles (Charlie) Conrad Ammann and wife Pepper; and his grandchildren: Jake Pawelek, Max Pawelek, Connally Waight, Jackson Waight, Layne Ammann, Peter Chiaraluce, Shane Chiaraluce, Conrad Ammann and Brill Ammann. He is also survived by his sister Ann Ammann Norman and husband Bill and many loving brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 27th at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Rd, Austin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nellie B. Connally Breast Cancer Center at MD Anderson or to the charity of ones choice.
