Robert "Bob" Ayer Bond

Robert Ayer “Bob” Bond, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, and to be reunited with his beloved wife LaRue on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 97. He was born in Pasadena, CA on April 6, 1929, the son of James Frances Bond of Philadelphia, PA and Vera Evelyn (Ayer) Bond of Calais, ME.

Bob’s father died in 1938 when he was only 9 years old, and the family moved to the Los Angeles suburb of El Monte where they lived until 1943 when his mother became ill and Bob and his brothers were placed in the McKinley Home for Boys in Van Nuys, CA and his sisters put in foster care, and later the family was reunited in 1946 at their maternal grandmother’s home in Calais, ME.

In August of 1952, Bob was discharged from the Air Force and enrolled in a program at DeVry TV Service School that required moving to Chicago, IL. During this time, Bob took an apprentice job while in school and ran service calls for a TV repair shop in Chicago. Upon graduating as Valedictorian in May of 1953, Bob, Georgie, and new daughter, Evelyn, moved to Austin, TX, where he enrolled at the University of Texas for the September class of Electrical Engineering. In April of 1954, he founded Bond's Television Service, running the business from home. He continued working on his Bachelor's degree, doing night calls until 11pm after a full day of classes.

By the early 1970’s, Bond’s Television Inc. became one of the largest television and electronics service companies in Texas. Bob was instrumental in the growth of the Home Electronics Industry, and as President, and later Executive Director of the Texas Electronics Association (TEA), he grew the membership to be some of the most successful & professional Servicing Dealers in the country. Today, Bond’s Television Inc. is still going strong after 72 years in business due to the foundation & leadership Bob provided.

Bob was a Baptist Deacon at Hyde Park Baptist Church, and for hobbies, Bob enjoyed golf & tennis in his early years, but after marrying his wife, LaRue, “Ballroom Dancing” was their main entertainment and exercise.

Bob leaves behind his sister, Shirley Groves of Newington, CT, his son David (Lynda “Lindy”) Bond of Del Valle, TX, and four grandchildren, Samantha (Clint) Fohn, Haley Bond, Michael and Corinne Coffey, and two great grandchildren, Abigail and Connor Fohn.

Bob is predeceased in death by his parents, his older half-brother Raymond W. “Bill” Slocomb, sister Dorothy Welsh and husband, John of Arlington, brothers Jim & his wife Barbara Bond of Round Rock, TX and Edward Bond of San Antonio, TX, Bob’s first wife Georgie Bond, his loving daughter Evelyn Lee Bond-Coffey of Marble Falls, TX, and his wife LaRue.
