

Robert M. "Bobby" Cavett, of Austin, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Bobby was born November 24, 1928 in Austin, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wentrcek Cavett, to whom he was married 57 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Freund Cavett and Guy O. Cavett and his sister Mary Louise "Betty" DeBehnke. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Bobby is survived by his children and their spouses, Kenneth and Mary Cavett and Nancy and Jeff Martin. Also surviving him are his sister Peggy Cavett Walden; and his grandchildren, Melanie (Charlie) Merton, Brian Cavett, Ryan Martin and Tyler Martin, as well as two nephews, Dr. Richard DeBehnke (Robin) and their daughter Natalie, Bob DeBehnke; and other family members. Bobby was a full-time member and employee of the Texas National Guard for 44 years. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer (W4) in 1990. Bobby was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, first as a leader in his son's troop and then volunteering with individual troops and the Capitol Area Council. The Boy Scouts of America honored him in 1972 with their highest award, The Silver Beaver. His son and three grandsons honored him by all achieving the status of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed all his family, neighbors and friends. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Texas Military Forces Museum, Post Office Box 5218, Austin, Texas 78763, or the Boy Scouts of America, Capitol Area Council, 7540 Ed Bluestein Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78723, or the charity of your choice.
