Robert Lee Gorham, Jr. (Bob), age 87, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 and entered the
gates of heaven to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Bob was born on October 22, 1930, in the original Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas to
Robert and Ada Gorham. Bob lived in Austin all of his life, graduating from Austin High School. He attended the University of Texas.
Bob was a retired Sgt. Major in the Marines and a very proud and patriotic American. He was also retired from the State of Texas. He had many years of faithful service in the military and at the State of Texas.
Bob is predeceased by his son, Gary Gorham; brother, Gene Gorham, his sister, Judy Murdock and his first wife, Mary Gorham who passed away in 2006.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Donna; and his precious fur children, BJ and Dolly. Bob is also survived by two grandchildren - Blake Gorham (CA); and Jennifer Brown
(TN); nephews; nieces; and cousins.
Bob often said that one of the greatest blessings in his life was when he married into the Hobbs
family. He absolutely loved and adored two of Donna's cousins - Linda Baldree and Cathy
Stalcup. Bob and Donna spent many happy times with them when they visited Austin.
There are four couples that were dear to Bob's heart - Ernie and Ann Woodby; Ron and La Vonne Baker; Scotty and Juanette Oliver; and Harold and Barbara O'Chester. He treasured their friendships and thanked God for each of them every day.
Bob truly lived a life which exemplified Jesus Christ. He placed Jesus in first place in every aspect of his life. He and Donna shared a quiet time together each morning and prayed for all their family and friends every night. Bob was a prayer warrior and spent many hours in prayer each day. He also loved to read the Holy Bible and study scripture. His knowledge of the Bible was remarkable.
Bob volunteered in the Benevolence Ministry at Great Hills Baptist Church for many years and
led the Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting for several years. He also taught Sunday school; served as a Deacon; and was a Gideon. Bob had a gift of service - no task at church or the Gideons was too large or small for him to do. And he did those tasks with a big smile on his face, a sparkle in his beautiful blue eyes, and joy in his heart.
Bob had a passion for missions. He made three mission trips to Brazil. He also traveled on mission trips to Hungary, Romania, Belize and Cleveland to share Jesus with everyone he met. A great joy for Bob was to lead people to God's Kingdom on each mission trip.
Bob was a godly man who loved his Lord. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. He was a special blessing God placed on earth for many to know and love.
Donna would like to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard Helmer and Bob's Infusion Nurse,
Thomas, at Texas Oncology. Their love, concern and care for Bob this past year is sincerely
appreciated.
