

Bob served in the Army in World War II as part of the 44th Infantry Battalion (Doughboys) of the Sixth Armored Division. He was awarded the Silver Star for his courageous actions and heroic efforts on the battlefield. During the same action near Eincheville, France, he was wounded three times and received the Purple Heart. After the war he returns to Texas and married Roberta Cole on February 7, 1945.
Bob was an active member in both the Sixth Armored Division Association and the Purple Heart Veterans Association of Austin.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Harwood, his son Robert Harwood Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Sandy Malone; his parents, two brothers (James & Loy) and a sister (Laurie). Bob is also survived by: numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Over the years the family was assisted by special friends in caring for Bob. They would like to give special thanks to: Retirement Nursing Center where Bob resided, Mary & Brian White, and Chip & Nancy Harris.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Friday, the 25th of October 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 26th of October 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
