

Robert Eric Mathews, age 70, of Burnet, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in Austin, Texas. A retired independent contractor and founder of Mathews Construction, Robert was known for his dedication to hard work, love for the outdoors, and deep commitment to his family.
Born on July 15, 1954, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Robert was the son of Robert Emory and Margie June Taylor Mathews. He grew up in Houston and graduated from Westchester High School in 1972. He then attended the University of Texas and Southwest Texas State University, where he spent some cherished years in San Marcos. Later, he graduated from IT Technical School, where he completed his training in the trades that would shape his lifelong career.
Robert spent most of his adult life in Austin, Texas, before settling into retirement in Burnet. He had a true passion for the outdoors—whether it was boating on the lake, bowling, hunting, or simply watching wildlife through the window from the comfort of his favorite recliner with his beloved cat Benjamin. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Nelly Mathews; his daughter Melissa Reich and husband Zach, and grandchildren Luke and Madison Reich; son Chase Mathews and granddaughter Kate Mathews; and brother Greg Mathews, as well as his three step-children who loved him very much.
He will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and the steady presence he offered to those who knew him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Dr., Austin, TX 78731. Burial immediately following.
Robert's memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
