

Dr. Robert Walters died on Tuesday morning, November 9, 2010 at his home at the age of 69. He was born to Thurman Merrill and Eleanor Pfautsch Walters in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in St. Louis and attended Washington University, receiving his B.A. degree in 1968. He graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois in 1974 as valedictorian and trained at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center for General Surgery. He did his orthopedic residency at the Harvard Combined Program in Orthopedic Surgery in Boston, MA. His thesis received The Hip Society Award which was presented at the annual meeting of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons. His Hand Surgery training was at the Christine Kleinert Program in Louisville, Kentucky. He practiced both general and hand orthopedic surgery in Wichita, Kansas before bringing his family to Austin in 1983. It was here that he began his practice specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. For the last 27 years Bob has cared for patients in and around the Austin area with tremendous joy, fulfilled with the knowledge that his passion for his work was rivaled only by the love and adoration returned by his family, friends, patients, and colleagues.
Dr. Walters is survived by his wife, Jane, son, David Walters, son and daughter-in-law, Brian Walters and Cathy Doggett, daughter and son-in-law, Leslie Marie Reasbeck and Joe Reasbeck, and daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Walters. He leaves five much beloved grandchildren, Jay Reasbeck, Nate Reasbeck, Mark Reasbeck, Sam Reasbeck, and Zayla Rose Walters. He is also survived by one sister, Sharon Walters Coffing and her husband, Bill, of Crystal Lake, Florida, a brother, Richard Edward Morris and sister-in-law, Joan Morris, and sister-in-law, Ruth Morris, wife of his late brother, John L. Morris of St. Louis.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 12th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, 7050 Village Center Dr., Austin. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
