

Roberto E. Cantu passed away peacefully on February 24th, 2024 in Austin, Texas at the age of 71. He was born on May 7th, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas where he grew up and spent his younger years working with his father, Gregorio Cantu at Spohn Hospital. Following graduation from Moody High School in 1971 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he met his beloved wife of 50 years Lina Martinez. After serving 4 years in active duty he continued his military career with the Air Force Reserves and the Army National Guard. After the military Roberto went on to have a successful career with the City of Austin retiring after 25 years. He was an avid football fan and would never miss an opportunity to see his sons play. He enjoyed the outdoors and going for long walks around the neighborhood he called home for over 40 years. Roberto was known throughout the neighborhood for his friendly disposition and genuine conversations. He loved chatting with anyone he knew and even more so with the people he didn’t. Roberto had no strangers in his life.
Roberto will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends including wife Lina Cantu, son Michael Cantu and granddaughter Jaime Cantu. He is preceded in death by his father Gregorio Cantu, mother Raquel Zambrano, sister Maria Mora and son Rob Cantu.
He is survived by his sisters Bertha, Laura and brother Rolando.
A memorial service will be held at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park Saturday, March 16th, 2024 at 12 pm to celebrate Roberto’s Life.
