Rodney Rich Firth was born the son of Norman James Firth Jr. (Jack) and Dolores Jean Firth in Mobile, Alabama on February 16, 1961. He departed this world on June 8, 2018 after a battle with cancer. Rodney was raised in Austin, Texas, and his name was synonymous with golf. He played for the Round Rock Dragons and led them to a state championship in 1978. Throughout the rest of his life, he stayed true to the game of golf. While he never lost his love of playing the game, his passion was instructing others in the game that he so loved. Rodney will be remembered in golf communities far and wide, but his greatest pride is the legacy he has left in his son, Austin Firth, also a golfer. He is predeceased in death by his father, Norman James Firth, Jr. and his brother, Donald Martin Firth. He leaves behind his mother, Dolores Jean Firth, his son, Austin James Firth, and many other loving family members and friends.
Rodney would want all who wish to enjoy a round of golf, remembering to always “turn, throw, follow through”.
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd. in Austin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rodney’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
