Roger Haltom Sikes was born September 1, 1923, in Benchley, Texas to Luther Elby Sikes and Roxie Elizabeth Haltom. He married Mable Hawley on June 10, 1946. They raised a family of three boys and two girls.
Roger earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M, proudly graduating in 1949. He remained an Aggie till the day he died.
Roger was an Army Veteran with 5 and a half years of service. His stints in the Army included fighting in World War II, mainly in the Pacific theater. After being discharged, Roger was recalled from the Inactive Army Reserves to serve his country again during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany as the first line of defense to a Russian invasion. He ended his service at the rank of First Lieutenant. He had vivid memories of his time in the service, and left many memoirs of his life there. After serving his country to the highest degree in the military, Roger had a distinguished career as a Federal Highway Engineer. Upon retirement from the Federal Highway Administration, Roger worked as the city engineer for the City of Westlake.
Roger Haltom Sikes proudly served his country, his community, and patiently and lovingly served his family and friends, but his greatest service was to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There was never a day that Roger forgot who he was in Christ. If the church was meeting, he was there. If something needed to be done, he was your man. He was truly a man after God's own heart. He served to get others into Heaven!
He was preceded in Death by his wife, Mable; his brothers, Robert and Eugene; and sister, Merle Hearn.
