Darold was born in Austin, Texas and was raised with 2 brothers, Doyle and Randy. Darold has two daughters, Tania and Kelli, and a step son, Josh. Darold was lucky enough to have two careers that he loved. He started at IBM in 1967 and continued his career until he retired in 1992. Prior to his retiring from IBM as a Manager, he found his second career. In 1982 he began working as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Travis County. He started his second career as a Deputy later in life, although it had been a lifelong dream. He donated his time, energy and love for his job as a Reserve Deputy for 10 years and then in 1992 he continued his dream as a full time officer for another 24 years before retiring in 2016. Darold loved his job as a Deputy.
He was confident, professional, and knowledgeable, yet he was able to show patience, kindness, compassion and warmth to all he encountered. Darold made lifelong friends from both of his careers and he was known as a friend that was always honest, reliable and there if needed. He continued the friendship with many after retirement by playing golf and attending monthly luncheons.
1992 was a year of change for Darold, not only did he get to continue a love for his career as a Deputy, he met the love of his life, Janeice. They married in October 1994 and they made their home in the Austin area. He loved playing golf, reading, loved watching his Rangers, Astros, Dallas Cowboys, Longhorns and Aggies. Darold and Janeice loved taking cruises, watching sports together and driving the countryside to get outside and relax. Last but not least, Darold had a love for his kitty cats!
Darold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ethel Templeton and his older brother Doyle Templeton.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Janeice Templeton and three children, Tania Templeton Chauvin and her husband John, Kelli Templeton Bennett and her husband Scott, and stepson Josh Herbst and his wife Melanie; his brother, Douglas R. Templeton and his wife Susan Walker Templeton, as well as his brother-in-law Keith Wiatrek and his wife Cleta; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one aunt, multiple cousins, and many friends and colleagues.
Darold will be missed as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, colleague and friend. A man’s greatest gift is his legacy of love to those around him, those touched by him, his kindness, his spirit and his accomplishments. We will miss you Darold.
