Roland Weldon Battles

On December 13, 1941, Roland was born to Weldon and Florence Battles in Austin, TX. He attended McCallum High School, then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly after graduation. He later began a career at LCRA and retired in 2001 after 19 faithful years.

Roland was the beloved husband of Donna, whom he married on April 30, 1966, not long after meeting one another on a blind date. His greatest honor in life was being a father and grandpa. Roland was a devoted Christian who enjoyed spending time with his family. Roland also enjoyed working on cars, sitting in his recliner watching reruns of old Westerns, NASCAR, and UT football.

Those left to cherish memories of Roland are his three daughters: Rhonda Taylor (Michael Taylor), Sonya Pickwell (Michael Pickwell), and Carrie Jamerson (Lance Jamerson); and four grandchildren: Kaylee Michael (William Michael), Megan Taylor, Zachary Taylor, and Avery Jamerson.

Roland is preceded in death by his mother, Florence; father, Weldon; and his loving bride of 53 years, Donna Lynn (Moffett) Battles.

Our dad will be dearly missed by family and friends. Roland’s family was his pride and joy, and his greatest role in his life was being a papa to his grandchildren. He showed unconditional love to his family and always made sure to say “I Love You, to be careful, and to make sure the doors were locked.” He was always a person you could count on when times were hard and never hesitated to help anyone in need.

A memorial service will be held at 10: 00 am on May 27, 2025 at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home located at 6300 W William Cannon Dr., Austin, TX 78749. Committal Service will immediately follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park at 11608 Chapel Ln, Austin, TX 78748.
