Rolando “Role” Rocha II was born in McAllen, Texas, on May 27th, 1976. He went to be with our Lord on September 4th, 2019. Roland grew up in McAllen, Texas, and attended McAllen High School and the Science Academy of South Texas. Upon graduating in 1994, he attended Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in December of 2000 and a Master of Science degree in Educational Technology in May of 2002.

Rolando moved to Austin, Texas, in 2004 and worked at the University of Texas at Austin from 2004 to 2012 as a Senior Information Technology Manager. From 2012 to 2015 he worked at the Art Institute of Austin as a Technology Support Supervisor and Regional Desktop Supervisor. From 2015 to 2018 he worked at Concordia University as a Senior Director of Information Technology. He also taught Life & Leadership courses at the University. Roland had been working at ModSquad as a Help Desk Manager since October of 2018.

While Rolando’s career was centered on providing technology support, he also took time to guide, mentor, and teach the employees he oversaw. He always sought to create a collaborative team environment and to provide excellent customer service.

Rolando’s hobbies included archery, hunting, biking, racquetball, tennis, video games, and dancing. Rolando enjoyed competing in archery at the state level. He traveled the state of Texas competing in various tournaments and placed first in dozens of them. Rolando also enjoyed giving back to the archery community by regularly teaching and mentoring children in the sport. He took great pride when they competed at the state level and won.

Rolando was full of life with a big heart and a contagious smile. He loved spending time with family and made friends everywhere he went. Rolando never met a stranger – everyone was a friend he just hadn’t met yet. He was a loving, happy, and giving person who never hesitated to help someone in need.

Rolando is survived by his parents, Andres Guzman, Jr. and Petra Guzman; his sister Andrea (Jorge) Martinez; his brother Michael Guzman (Arturo Longoria); and his beloved niece Isabella Martinez, who he lovingly called “Izzy.” Rolando is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, “Granny” Apolinar Sara Martinez and Marcelo Martinez; and his paternal grandparents Andres Guzman, Sr. and Adela Garza Guzman.

Rolando will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

There is an endearing quality of tenderness in the love of a mother to a wonderful son...for it transcends all other affections of the heart and elevates the spirit...

I had the pleasure of being Roland’s direct manager or "Boss!" as he'd like to jokingly say, for the past year. He was an incredible guy, full of life, and made the entire office a better place just by his fun and easy-going presence.

They say we don’t go to work to make friends, but Roland was my friend and a good friend to many.

He will surely be missed.

I imagine that we could have shared a lot, even if we may have disagreements. I imagine that we could have shared a lot. And I can only now imagine how much we could have shared. That's a shame...a real shame. a real shame.
