He was a generous man
He loved life, family, and people He loved to laugh.
Ronald Lynn Allen of Austin, Texas went to Heaven on February16 at the age of 75 from conditions related to Alzheimer's.
Ron was born on February 26, 1940 in Independence, Missouri to Fred and Jean Allen. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in Public Administration. After several years working in Missouri and Illinois, he came to Texas to work for Governor John Connolly in the Budget Office. That association convinced him that being a Texan was a pretty good thing to be.
From that point on, Austin became his home. . Although Ron was born in Missouri and loved his home state, he was a true Texan at heart. However, he was quick to remind people that Stephen F. Austin was from Missouri.
The lakes and trees and all of nature were very special to him. He would feed the deer even knowing there was a fine and that all his neighbors were annoyed with him. He always said they were here first. We trapped them.
Fishing was his favorite pastime, especially with his children. It didn't matter that he didn't catch fish, he just loved the being there out in the open near water with those he loved.
God and family were the most important things in his life. He was always involved in church and loved singing in the choir.
As Director of the Veterinary Licensing Board he came to love all the veterinarians with whom he came in contact. He often remarked that veterinarians were special people. He might have thought this because he loved animals so very much. He never saw a dog he didn't like or who didn't like him. When he became ill, his constant companion was his little black dog, Dolly. You rarely saw one without the other. The family thought Dolly was a little angel who came at
just the right time to bring him joy and peace. For him an angel couldn't have come in a better form.
Everyone who knew him loved his sense of humor. Even in his last days he had people laughing at his quick wit.
The word stranger had no meaning to Ron.
One of the most often used phrases to describe him was "He was always a gentleman and showed respect to everyone."
Those who loved him will miss him so very much and think of him every day. He isn't gone. He is living in their hearts.
Preceding Ron in death were his parents, Jean and Fred Allen and a son, Leif Stuart Allen. He is survived by a brother Terry Allen and his wife Linda of Alton, Illinois, a loving family who will miss him; his wife Saundra Allen; his son Erick Allen and wife Jodi; his son Trevor Allen and wife Amy; his step-daughter Lori Durham and husband Steve; his step-son Ladd Lebus and partner Brad Page. Loving grandchildren are Marshall Allen, Foster Allen, Riley Allen, Langley Allen and Katie Allen. Ron was blessed that his entire family lived in Austin.
The family would like to thank all the friends who were so supportive of Ron and family during his exceedingly long illness, especially Sykes Houston, Nancy Kashou, and Michael Scott.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in Ron's name to the National Alzheimer's Foundation.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 P.M. February 21, in the sanctuary of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church with Dr. Ray Kiser officiating and Audrey Spencer, attending.
