He graduated from The University of Dallas with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974, attended Holy Trinity Seminary, and continued his theological studies at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome where he earned degrees in Sacred Theology with honors. Ronnie had the highest privilege to serve the Vatican as deacon for 3 years while in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood and served as a Catholic priest from 1976 to 1984 with the Diocese of Dallas.
He later continued his life of service as a law enforcement officer. Ronnie joined the Dallas Police Academy in 1986 where he served as class president. Upon graduation, he served the community of Dallas for 27 years until retiring at the rank of sergeant in 2013. During his distinguished career, he received numerous commendations including two life saving awards, and the medal of valor, the department’s highest award for bravery.
After retirement, Ronnie and Alicia moved to Austin, Texas to be close to their children and family. They joined St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and also served as the Director of Special Needs. He enjoyed going to the gym, telling stories, travelling with Alicia, and especially their yearly beach trips, where he relished making memories with family. More than anything “Papa Ron” enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren whether that was attending sporting events, dance recitals, or simply joining them in their daily fun activities.
He is preceded in death by his mother Martha Julia Bratt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alicia Cortez Bratt; stepsons, Jerry Bauzon (Brenda), Jeffrey Bauzon (Robin), and Jason Bauzon (Laura); grandchildren, Cadence, Addy, Eliot, Jeremiah, Josiah, and Camila; father, Roland Bratt; siblings, John Bratt, Karen Ellis, Sherry Schreiber, and Linda Bratt.
