Rosalie C. Cosentino was born on March 22, 1925 in Queens, New York and died May 28, 2015 in Austin, Texas at the impressive age of 90. She was born to Angelo & Joan Geluso, who emigrated from Palermo, Italy; she majored in mathematics at Hunter College. She lived in New York (and loved walking through the city and taking the subway) until she married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. Biagio (Blase) Cosentino and began a number of years of moving across the country with his job as an oral surgeon with the U.S. Public Health Service. They lived in Pass Christian, MS; New Orleans, LA; Alameda, CA; New London, CT; Wheaton, MD; Staten Island and Brooklyn, NY and Galveston, TX as their family grew to include two daughters and four sons. They eventually settled in Dallas, TX, where they lived for 29 years.
Rosalie was a dedicated mother and housewife to her husband and six children. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed food and a good cup of coffee; was an avid reader, sewer and gardener; and loved shopping for bargains which she sent to her children and grandchildren in elaborate care packages. Even in her later years, small children made her light up, and she enjoyed playing with and talking to her great grandchildren, as well as playing cards, bingo and completing jigsaw puzzles at her final residence, Grace House in Austin, TX.
She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 57 years, Blase; her parents and brother; and her grandson Jonathan Cosentino. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Nina & Jerry Phillips and Jacqueline & David Phillips, as well as her sons, Dr. Robert Cosentino and his wife Karen; Michael Cosentino & wife Yvette; Dr. Stephen Cosentino & wife Johnna; and Dr. John Cosentino and long-time friend Dr. Vivian Mielcarek. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Dr. Lauren Phillips and husband Dr. Marco Simoni; Brendan Phillips and wife Sabrina; Erin Cosentino and fiancé Aaron Reissner; Shawn Phillips and friend Alicia Waldon; Andrew Cosentino; Jessica Phillips; Madeline Cosentino and Matthew Cosentino, as well as five great-grandchildren: Marley, Nicolò, Arianna, Azaria and Blaise.
Rosalie and her family are appreciative of the excellent care provided to her by the staff of Grace House of Lake Travis over the past eight years.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 1, 2015 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 P.M.
