Roy S. Nunnally, 85, of Austin, passed away peacefully early on Easter afternoon, in the presence of his daughter and several of his caregivers at the nursing home where he resided for the past nearly two years.
Before his stay at the nursing home, Roy lived an enjoyable life in good health and full of hard work. Roy graduated from Austin High School and then studied at UT Austin. At the age of 19, during his senior year while studying chemical engineering, he was appointed to the Naval Academy. Roy graduated from the Academy in 1947 at age 22. He spent 22 years in the Navy. He really enjoyed his sea duty tours travelling all over the world, although he was separated from his family.
After retiring from the Navy as a Commander, Roy worked for the State of Texas for 20 years, mostly in budgeting. He also was a CPA. Roy had a very quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor, often self-deprecating, and he was very generous.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy L. Nunnally and Blanche Hooks Nunnally and by his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Robinson Nunnally, who died in 2001. He is survived by his children, Roxanne and Rex, both of Austin, and other relatives and friends. His family is thankful to know that he is in heaven now and no longer suffering. Roy will surely be missed! The family wishes to thank the nursing home employees for their kindness before and after Roy’s death.
Roy will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home’s Lamar location. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy’s honor to his favorite charity, Salvation Army.
