Ruby Lee Lewis

Ruby Lee Lewis, 101, passed away on August 29, 2026. Born May 11, 1925, in Giddings, Texas, Ruby’s long life was marked by steady devotion to family, a gentle strength, and a compassion that made others feel cared for and seen. A cherished presence to many, she carried herself with the quiet wisdom of someone who understood that love is best shown through daily faithfulness and work done for others.

Ruby worked for a little while with Goodwill, and she also poured her heart into the work that mattered most to her—home and family. A devoted homemaker and beloved babysitter, she was known for keeping everyone in line with a steady hand and a tender spirit. Ruby was the caregiver for the whole family, offering comfort, guidance, and practical help whenever it was needed. Her love was generous and enduring; she spoiled her grandchildren with whatever they wanted, and that kindness followed them all the way into adulthood.

Ruby’s care was felt not only in her presence, but in the warmth of her kitchen. A great country cook, she was especially known for making the best fried chicken and homemade biscuits—meals that gathered people close and turned ordinary days into lasting memories.

Faith was a constant in Ruby’s life. She attended Church of Christ at East Side for over 30 years, living with a faithful heart and a gentle, steadfast spirit that reflected her deep devotion.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Josephus and Lullean Lewis; her brothers, M.T. Lewis, Josephus Lewis Jr., and Ernest D. Lewis; her sisters, Shane and Erma Mae Lewis Green; and her daughter, Debra Williams.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Shirley Eason; her sons, Terry Barnett and Herbert Riggins; her sister, Mary Ella Green; and her grandchildren, Vickie Eason, Maya Riggins, Waymond Eason, Herbert Riggins Jr, Brandon Wiggins, and Damien Riggins. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren.
