Ruby Luckett, 86, joined her heavenly Father on December 31, 2009. Ruby was born August 29, 1923 in Ashland, Kentucky to Charles and Sara Stapleton. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother with a strong Christian faith who will be dearly missed. She graduated from Ashland High School where she played the clarinet in the marching band of the Ashland High School Tomcats. During World War II she worked as a quality inspector for Clayton and Lambert in the manufacture of ordinance for the US Navy. She enjoyed careers with The Marley Company, International Harvester and Life of Kentucky Insurance Co. Ruby moved from Louisville, Kentucky, where she was a lifelong member of South Park Country Club, to Austin in 1996 to be near her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Her move brought her to The Summit at Westlake Hills where she became well known for her smile and hello to everyone she met. She soon became Chair for the Welcome Committee, the role she embraced and thoroughly enjoyed during her tenure. She often said it was one of the most enjoyable times of her life and it showed with her outgoing and friendly personality. Ruby is survived by her only child, Michael Pennington and his wife Susie, Austin; grandson Steven Pennington, Austin; granddaughter Lindsey Long, her husband Corey Long and great granddaughter Chloe Long, Murphy, Texas; grandson, Christopher Pennington, California; sister Verna Stemmer; and brother Russ Stapleton of Ashland, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Raymond Pennington to whom she was married for 25 years and by second husband, Earl Luckett with whom she enjoyed a 30 year marriage. Also preceding her were sisters Freda Fowler, Evelyn Pruitt, Juanita Lehman and brother Charles (Bud) Stapleton. We offer a special thanks to the staff of the Assisted Living Unit at The Summit at Westlake Hills for their loving support of Ruby for the special care they have extended during the past few years. We also want to thank the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, Austin for their loving support. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Austin, Texas.
