Imagine spending over 95 years on this earth including over seven decades as a loving mother. Ruth Goebler was born in Hawley, Minnesota, on June 30, 1928. During her childhood, she moved several times due to her father’s work for the United States government. Towards the end of high school, they arrived in San Antonio, Texas, where she spent the next 25 years. There she became the mother of four children. In 1970, she moved to the Austin area where she lived for the remainder of her life. She died on November 12, 2023.
Ruth was born to Felix Bey Higgins and Zelda Hindman. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Frances and Bill. She is survived by her four children, son Robert (Robby) Frasier and wife Debbie of San Antonio, daughter Margo Frasier and wife Yvonne Kelso of Pflugerville, son Bruce Frasier and wife Jeanie of Carrizo Springs, and daughter Delaine (Lainie) Frasier of Austin. She was blessed with six grandchildren (Rebecca, Patrick, Felicia, and Marley of Austin and Mysty and Crysty of San Antonio), nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Ruth was proud that she earned an associate degree from San Antonio Community College. A rare feat for a woman in the 1940s. She was even prouder that, as a single mother, she instilled in her children the importance of education, and that all four went on to graduate from college. Ruth spent the majority of her career as a Labor Market Analyst for the Texas Employment Commission (now Texas Workforce Commission). Upon retirement, she became a volunteer for the Seton Hospital Auxiliary for 19 years including serving as President. She then later volunteered for Sweet Charity and Next to New. Ruth loved to read and watch sports; especially the San Antonio Spurs.
A memorial service will be held December 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas 78731. Memorial contributions may be made to Next to New or a charity of your choice.
