

Ruth Gilbert Magnuson, 97 years of age, long time resident of Austin, died December 9, 2005 in Duncanville, Texas. She was born on October 13, 1908 in Dennis, Texas and spent most of her adult life in Austin. Through her life she wore many hats. She was a teacher in Weatherford, a secretary for the Legislature and the Brown School, and employed at First Federal Savings all of Austin. She enjoyed bridge, needlework, and her family. She was a long time member of the Susannah Wesley Class, and the First United Methodist Church of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eric B. Magnuson; her parents, Will and Annie Gilbert; three brothers, Howard Gilbert of Austin, Jack Gilbert of Dickinson, and Hubert Gilbert of Pasadena, Texas; sister, Louise Bunch of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by her daughter, Jan and son-in-law James Wallace of Duncanville; grandchildren Nancy and husband Greg Ruffin of Cedar Hill, Sheri Wallace of Duncanville, Wendy Wallace-Lewis of Mansfield, and great-granddaughter Lilly Lewis of Mansfield; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with the Reverend Kathleen Jones and Bruno Schmidt officiating. Internment will be at Austin Memorial Park immediately following the funeral.
