S. Bruce Butrym Jr. Captain US Navy Retired

S. Bruce Butrym, Jr. Captain US Navy, Retired S. Bruce Butrym, Jr., Captain US Navy, Retired, was born in McKeesport, PA February 24, 1929 and died, Friday, July 30, 2004 at his home, with family, in Austin, TX. Bruce is survived by his wife, Elizabeth F. Butrym, three sons: S. Bruce III, Steven Flynn and Terry Michael. A 4th son, Kenneth P., predeceased him. He also leaves to mourn him, 4 daughters-in-law and 8 grandchildren; a brother, Richard and family and the family of a deceased brother, Robert. Bruce and Elizabeth were married 51 years and traveled around the country with his Navy career of 28 years. Captain Butrym retired as Commanding Officer of Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic, Charleston, SC, in 1981. He worked as a manager for Lockheed for the next 11 years in Sunnyvale, California and Austin, Texas. Captain Butrym was educated at Georgetown University, St. Vincent’s College, University of Pittsburgh, and Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. Captain Butrym’s personal decorations included the National Defense Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal and the Legion of Merit. Captain Butrym was always involved in his boy’s sports teams, Little League, football, swim teams and golf. He loved working with kids. He loved the Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 326 at Onion Creek, Austin, TX. His last wish was to be buried near his son Ken, in Quantico, VA National Cemetery. Rosary will be held at 7:30 PM Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Mount Castle Funeral Home in Dale City, Virginia. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM Friday, August 6, 2004, at the Marine Memorial Chapel in Quantico, Virginia. A Memorial Service will be held in Austin, TX at a later date.
