Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Sally Taylor Pace Aulds, age 96, passed from complications due to COVID-19 into the loving arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2020.
Sally was born on December 14, 1923 in Farmerville, Louisiana to Nancy Elizabeth “Bessie” and John Taylor. She was one of four children growing up on a working ranch/farm. As Sally grew up she learned the finer art of managing a household, preparing delicious country style meals and sewing. Sally was a graduate of Farmerville High School. At the age of 18 years a 34 year old World War II Veteran, M. Alvin Pace swept her off her feet. After a short courtship they were married November 29, 1942. They moved to Pasadena, California. In 1944 they had their first child, John Alvin Pace. They settled in Orange, Texas in 1945 and had their second child, Nancy Belle Pace in 1946. In 1948 Sally and Al planted their feet in Austin, Texas. Al was an attorney for Aetna until his retirement in 1972. Sally was a stay-at-home mom and worked hard to provide a stable, loving, and caring environment for her husband and children. She was an extraordinary seamstress making all of her daughter’s clothes as she was growing up as well as her own. Much to her husband’s and children’s delight she made the best old fashion country meals. Sally was renowned for her chicken and dumplings, southern fried chicken, cornbread, hush puppies, desserts and many other fabulous old recipes. She would gladly share her recipes, however; much to our dismay the dishes never quite tasted as good as hers. Little did we know it was the love she put in them that made the difference.
For over 40 years Sally and her family were members of Great Hills Baptist Church joining back when it was named Allandale Baptist Church. When her children grew up and left home, Sally worked part-time in the church nursery. She loved “her babies” and worked in the church nursery for over 25 years. On February 26, 1989 Al passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer. Sally was his devoted caretaker.
In 1994 Sally had a second “once in a lifetime” experience. Through the efforts of her sister Margaret Brown of Shreveport, Louisiana, Sally was fortunate enough to reunite with her childhood sweetheart, Garland Aulds who had gone off to war 52 years earlier in Sally’s teen years. On May 14, 1994 Sally was married for the 2nd and final time to the love of her life. After a short stay in Austin they returned to their hometown, Farmerville, Louisiana. During the early years of their marriage they travelled extensively, enjoying life, and rejoicing in their union with true happiness and deep appreciation for the chance God had given them to finally be together. Those whom knew this couple marveled in the elation and devotion they shared. They gave each other much joy and happiness until Garland’s passing June 13, 2003. She continued to live on Lake D’arbonne in Farmerville until 2008. Sally then moved to Cedar Park, TX and built a house to be near her children and grandchildren. In 2011 after a fall Sally moved into Lakeline Oaks Independent Living in Cedar Park. In 2019 after declining health Sally moved into Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Cedar Park. A special thanks to her onsite hair stylist Ken Johnson and Kasie Andrews, RN for making sure her hair always looked beautiful. We also want to thank Amber Spain, Program Director, for providing wonderful activities and entertainment for all residents. Our family is especially appreciative during the COVID lockdown when she sent us pictures of Sally.
Sally will be remembered most for her uniquely, funny and uplifting sense of humor and style; her many giving and unselfish acts, as well as the kindness and love she showed those around her. She was always there if you needed her. Memories of her will forever be treasured in our hearts.
Sally was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Nancy Elizabeth “Bessie” Taylor; her brother, Mathew Taylor and her brother, John Dru Taylor of Farmerville, Louisiana; her sister, Margaret Brown of Shreveport, Louisiana; her first husband, M. Alvin Pace of Austin, Texas; and second husband Garland Aulds of Farmerville, Louisiana.
Sally is survived by her children and their spouses, John and Nell Pace of Cedar Park, Texas; Nancy and Dennis Willms of Cedar Park, Texas; grandchildren and spouses, Jay and Isabel Pace of Round Rock, Texas; Jim Pace and Eric Wahlberg of Round Rock, Texas; John Price and Violet of Briarcliff, Texas; Chuck Ryan of New Braunfels, Texas; Crissy Ryan of Austin, Texas; great grandchildren, Alexa and Colby Pace, Sarah and Sydney Ryan, Sophia Welch, and Ariel Price; a sister-in-law Novice Taylor in Farmerville, LA; and many special nieces.
