Samuel Winston Love, Jr.
Samuel Winston Love, Jr., 68, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at his home in Austin, TX. Sam was born October 2, 1942, in Port Arthur, TX, the son of Louise Hammett Love and the late Samuel W. Love, Sr.
Sam graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas in Austin. As a Life Member of the Texas Exes, you could not find a more enthusiastic supporter of his Longhorns! Perhaps he was even more enthusiastic about the music of Willie Nelson, but it was a close race!
Sam’s career spanned 40 years. His first job was selling computers to large corporations in the 1960’s for RCA Corporation. He went on to consult for various software development companies and retired as Associate Vice President with Morgan Stanley. He was an accomplished public speaker often invited to travel to Data Processing Management Association events to speak and entertain!
Sam leaves many family members and friends whom he loved and with whom he enjoyed spending time. Surviving Sam are his mother; his sons, James Alan Love (Traci) and Stephen Lee Love (Theresa) from his marriage to Nancy Pond McWaters; his daughter, Wendy Washburn Love from his marriage to Debbie Washburn Love; grandson, Lee Alan Love (Lesly); granddaughters, Katelyn Marie Love and Taylor Anne Love; great-grandsons, Korey Love and Lucas Love; and sister, Elizabeth Louise Kester (Darrel). He was predeceased by his father and his granddaughter, Stevie Lynn Love.
Sam’s family is appreciative of his many friends from the Volente community, and his caretaker, Stacy Harris, for her patience and love.
A memorial service will be held at First Lakeview Church, 14800 FM 2769 in Volente, on Wednesday, August 10, at 6:00 pm.
