Sandra was born on February 11, 1936 to Henry and Edwina Moore in Bay City, Texas. She attended eleven elementary schools due to her father’s job with the FBI before her family settled in Austin when she started junior high. Sandra attended University Junior High School where she met the love of her life and future husband, Rogers Wilson. Rogers and Sandra dated off and on for the next eleven years.
Sandra enjoyed telling the story of running for class president against Rogers and winning by one vote, only to find out later that he had voted for her and she had voted for herself.
After graduating from Austin High School, Sandra attended the University of Texas at Austin where she pledged Chi Omega and obtained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She was also active in Panhellenic, Mortar Board, and Campus Crusade. One year she was named by the University of Texas as an Outstanding Student. Sandra joked that she “peaked in college.”
Following graduation, Sandra was a kindergarten teacher at Casis Elementary School. It takes a special kind of person to teach kindergarten and Sandra was made for it. She was enthusiastic, creative, and had a gift for making learning fun for the children. She loved her students, and she invited her entire class to her wedding.
On September 5, 1959 Sandra married Rogers Wilson and they moved to Los Angeles, California. They treasured their short time in California as newlyweds where they worked, lived near the beach, and took in all that the area had to offer.
Sandra was an avid traveler. She and Rogers traveled extensively, both domestically and abroad. Her children enjoyed asking her about places she may not have been, only to find out that she had been there and could recall some specifics about each place. The only place she missed seeing was Portugal, and she had hoped to get there one day. A favorite trip for Sandra was the trip she and Rogers took around the world where they stopped at places like Bali, the Taj Mahal, and the Great Wall of China.
Most important to Sandra was her family. She and Rogers had two loving daughters, Tracy and Sharon, as well as two amazing sons-in-law, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The family enjoyed traveling together, spending time at their ranch, celebrating holidays and special events, and finding any occasion to be with each other.
In addition to family and traveling Sandra fiercely loved the Lord, her church, her friends, UT sports, playing golf and all kinds of games. She was actively involved in the Settlement Club for many years. She loved living at Westminster for the last four years, making new friends and getting reacquainted with some old friends.
Sandra is survived by her daughters, Tracy Miller & husband Jerry of Waco and Sharon Barton & husband Clay of Dripping Springs. Additionally surviving her are grandchildren Hannah Friggel & husband Steven; Luke Miller; James Barton & wife Lorrin; and Kyle Barton & wife Mary Layne, as well as five great-grandchildren. Sandra is also survived by her brother, Dr.Henry Moore of Seguin.
