Sandra Jane Winograd

Known as Sandi to her friends, Mom to her children and affectionately as Granny to everyone else, she leaves behind a legacy of fierce devotion to her family, comfort in her faith, and deep-rooted kindness.

Sandi was born on November 4, 1933, in Chicago Illinois to Sydney and Rita Beckman. Growing up with little money, she developed a resourcefulness that stayed with her throughout her life and could be seen in her love of sewing, gardening, and the art of stretching a dollar.

She was especially proud to tell the story of how she married the love of her life, Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Sanford Winograd, who she now joins in rest.

Sandi raised four children, Rose (David, 2010), Lance (Lisa), Steven (Judy), and Susan (Jon) instilling in them with her deep commitment to family. She took enormous joy in her 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a growing number of great-great grandchildren.

A longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel, Sandi found comfort and community in her faith. She devoted many years attending services, shuttling grandchildren to Sunday School and participating in the Empty Nester’s club.

Her family will fondly remember her love of music and the years she spent singing in the Austin Civic Chorus, the many hours she spent in her greenhouse, her unique sense of humor, and perhaps most importantly, her ever present post in the kitchen where she made Sunday family dinner. For Sandi feeding her family was one of the greatest expressions of love.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and undoubtedly talked about around many Sunday dinner tables for years to come.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, August 10, 2026 in the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 N. IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Congregation Beth Israel or a charity of choice.
