

Sara Street Miller Sara Street Miller of Austin, Texas died on February 24, 2008. Sara was born on May 1, 1921 in Street, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Sadie Pipes and Abel John Street, who precede her in death. Sara grew up in McComb, Mississippi and graduated from McComb High School in the class of 1938. In 1942, she graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. Sara took courses at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan before receiving her Masters of Education from the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. After college, Sara taught school in Mississippi, Missouri, and LaMarque, Texas until retirement. During World War II, Sara served as a hospital recreation worker for the American Red Cross in Army hospitals at Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi and Camp Butner, North Carolina. It was at this time that she met and married her beloved husband of 47 years, Virgil A. Miller, who precedes her in death. Sara is survived by her brother, John Pipes Street, and his wife, Martha Anne Street; their two sons, David Cummins Street and John Edwin Street, all of Austin, Texas; nephews, David Wendel Street and Andrew Street and niece Katie Street Clawson, also of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Alice Wurtz of Baldwin, Missouri and Lorraine Ameling and husband, Norman, of St. Louis, Missouri; nephews, David Ameling of St. Louis, Missouri and Stephen Wurtz of DesPeres, Missouri; and nieces, Julie Currivan of Apex, North Carolina, Kathy Garland of St. Louis, Missouri, Sue Nolan of Troy, Missouri, and Lois Ann Light of Newburgh, Indiana. Sara is also survived by many great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. A special thanks is given by the family to her caregivers. Sara was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Abram Morehouse Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a former member of the Austin Club. Sara loved her family and friends deeply, was always generous in her assistance to others, and will be remembered for her dignity, thoughtfulness, and beauty. She will ever be remembered for her genteel nature, her courage, and her ceaseless concern for others. Funeral services and entombment will be held at Capital Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 with The Reverend Jill Williams officiating.
