

Sarah Elizabeth Rogers Sanders passed away April 25, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born July 9, 1923 in Little Rock, AR, the only child of Joseph D. and Vera Thomas Rogers. Her father served as a Methodist minister until Sarah was 8 and they moved to north Louisiana. She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA and attended both L.S.U. and Centenary College. On June 7, 1942 she married John Nelson Sanders, who was serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Later Nelson attended medical school while Sarah raised their three children. They moved to Austin in 1954.
Sarah devoted herself to her family. Her children are Sandra Sanders Pruett (Harry), Glen Sanders, and Wayne Sanders (Debbie). The grandchildren, who all have a special place in their hearts for Mimi, are Sarah Elizabeth Pruett Newman (Jerry), Doug Pruett (Jill), Laura Sanders Franklin (Curt), Glen Sanders, Jr., Brittany Sanders McCurry (Michael) and Brady Sanders. She has 7 great-grandchildren: Sarah Newman, Rachel Newman, Katherine Pruett, Alexandra Pruett, Reagan Franklin, Cole Franklin, and Jackson McCurry. Her sister-in-law Valerie Sanders Gonzalez survives her. Her husband of 67 years, Nelson Sanders, predeceased her on May 21, 2009.
Sarah was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and in lieu of flowers, wishes that donations be made to the church's building fund.
Special thanks are extended to the wonderful caregivers at the Arbour at Westminster and Austin Hospice.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. with the service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
