
Sarah was a devout Catholic who wanted nothing more than to help others in any way she could usually through loving advice and support. She was the Executive Director overseeing the opening of the second job training workshop for the handicapped in the United States in Washington, DC after earning her Masters in English from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1958. A lover of classical music, Sarah played the piano. The majority of her professional career was spent doing what she loved most, which was teaching at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California where Sarah taught English for over 21 years. Originally from New Kensington, Pennsylvania, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anita Bruno (Pennsylvania); as well as her brother, Nick Bruno (California); and her sister, Angela Bruno (Pennsylvania). Passing quietly in her sleep, she is survived by her son, Tom Shindell, of Austin, Texas; her brother, Anthony Bruno (Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania); and many nieces and nephews. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 8, 2006 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home.
