Savannah Marguerite Borden, 15, passed away in her home on March 5, 2015. She was born in Agadir, Morocco on April 1, 1999 to Tamara Atkinson and David Borden. Apart from her first few months living abroad, she spent her entire life in Austin, Texas. She attended both Open Door Preschool and Rosedale School.
Savannah had an active social life and charmed people with her amazing smile and infectious laugh. She had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks on friends and taking advantage of anyone who underestimated her. She adored music, especially singing with her father, therapists, or nurse. She appreciated classical music, but was also fanatical about boy-bands. Her recent infatuation with the television show "Glee" tried the patience of the rest of her family, who lovingly indulged her.
In spite of her challenges, Savannah liked to get out. She loved rides in her van while listening to her favorite Elvis tape, enjoyed long walks, and swimming in our neighborhood pool with her nurse or therapist. She loved to compete and won numerous gold medals for bowling in Special Olympics.
Savannah lived a happy life in large part because she was surrounded by people who loved her. Her family would like to acknowledge the many outstanding professionals, therapists, caretakers, and teachers who helped Savannah through the years. So many times, in so many ways, we would not have survived without the love and support that you all individually and as a community provided to our family.
Savannah is survived by her parents and sister, Ruby, as well as her grandparents Bill and Aleta Atkinson and Marjorie and Joel Borden.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on March 14 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, TX 78705.
Donations in Savannah's name may be made to the Rosedale School PTA, 2117 W 49th Street, Austin, TX 78756.
