Shirley Ann Johnson Courtney, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2008. Though fighting the good fight against cancer for over a year, her faith in the Lord never waivered. She was a cheerful example of God's presence to all. Shirley was born in San Antonio to the late Fred and Myrtle Johnson on December 4, 1930. After moving to Austin and going to Austin schools she met and married the late Preston E. Courtney, Sr. She worked at a variety of jobs over the years but the hardest, yet most rewarding to her, was mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by many family members and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband. Her legacy, left behind to rejoice in her memory, are her son, Preston E. Courtney, Jr., son, Curtis Courtney and wife Cheryl, daughter, Melanie Gold, son Bryan Keith Courtney and wife Sherry, sisters, Joyce Johnson and Judy Sughrue Arrendale, eight granddaughters, five grandsons, eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
