Shirlie Yvonne Whitaker

Shirlie Yvonne Whitaker, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026. A woman of immense grace and unwavering devotion, Shirlie leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. Born on February 9, 1937 in Poteet, Texas to A.T and Frances Riggs, Shirlie spent the majority of her life in Knox City, Texas with a passion for homemaking, art and crafts.

Shirlie was the heart of her family. She was a devoted, mother, grandmother and sister who found her greatest joy in hosting holiday dinners and caring for her family and those around her. She always provided a willing hand to her neighbors and community. She provided support for Little League games, class parties, athletic booster clubs, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts by being a troop leader and a Den Mother.

She is survived by her son Chris Whitaker and wife DeEtte, daughter Starla Rush and husband R.T. Grandchildren Jordan Whitaker, Connor Whitaker and Andrew Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband Hiram Lee Whitaker.

Shirlie’s warmth and light will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in hearts of those she loved.
