Sonia was born on July 15, 1931 in Houston Texas to I.K. and Frieda Frenkel.
She received a BA and MFA in Fine Arts (Pottery) from Lamar University.
She married Harry Galewsky Jr. in 1953. Harry Galewsky passed away in Beaumont in 2015, and Sonia moved to Austin in 2017.
Sonia is survived by her five boys: Andy, Dan, Sam, Ben, and Joe; her eight grandchildren David, Alex, Jacob, Sophie, Isaac, Zelda, Ada and Lev; and her two great-grandchildren Wyatt and Lyle.
She won numerous awards and accolades for her ceramic sculpture and taught ceramics at Lamar University for several years. She was also involved with the Beaumont Little Theater for many years.
She was the beloved matriarch of a large family and she will be dearly missed.
